About the Kawiti Glowworm Caves
The Kawiti Glowworm Caves sit in the Waiōmio Valley, just south of Kawakawa. Thousands of native glowworms illuminate the limestone ceilings while striking natural formations create a unique atmosphere.
Tours are operated by the Kawiti family and their expert guides, who will explain the glowworm life cycle, Māori history, and cave geology as you walk the purpose-built boardwalk (about 200 metres).
Photography and lights are strictly restricted inside the cave to protect the delicate glowworm colony. Guides are happy to help with photos outside the caves.
